Volunteers and donors help children smile again
Applause for the people who made Friday night’s Polar Express ride possible for medically fragile children and those with a parent serving in the military in harm’s way:■ Retired Akron Police Sgt. Tom Dye, who secured the funding.■ The donors: Akron Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, Akron FOP Auxiliary 1, Police and Firemen’s Insurance Association, D&G Uniforms, SACS Consulting & Investigative Services Inc. and Akron FOP Associates No. 6. ■ Janet Shively and her volunteers, who made the fleece blankets.■ Jan Householder of the Giving Doll ministry and the Doylestown chapter, who fashioned the soft-sculpture dolls.■ Melissa Wise, who found military families, and Nancy Carst, Akron Children’s Hospital palliative care bereavement coordinator, who also recommended riders.
